Friday, January 12, 2001A Glimpse of Sir-tech Canada, from the InsideBack in mid December, we had a local Ottawa TV station, CJOH TV, in our offices doing a story on computer gaming for a show called High Tech Television (HTTV) that airs Sundays at 6:30pm EDT. The show originally aired Sunday December 31, 2000, and we have an excerpt from that show for those of you who were curious and wanted to see the inside of Sir-tech Canada and what we're all about. Keep in mind, the focus of the story was on Sir-tech Canada, not necessarily our latest game. As such, game footage seen in this video segment is limited to debugger sessions and test levels of Wizardry 8. For game play footage, refer refer to the Wizardry 8 Preview Movie link listed in our "Downloads Section" of our Wizardry 8 website. These templates will consist of landscaped terrain (often including buildings), but will require campaign-builders to add in enemies, items and other game-play data. Keeping watching this site for updates - we hope to add them regularly over the next while, and will be creating a separate download section for all these maps. If you create your own templates (or actual campaigns) that you wish to share with others, send them to our webmaster for consideration. Desktop Wallpaper!!Wednesday, August 09, 2000Jagged Alliance voice actor in "The Whole Nine Yards"Warner Brother's "The Whole Nine Yards" starring Bruce Willis, Rosanna Arquette and Matthew Perry was recently released to the home video market in North America on VHS and DVD. Towards the end of the film, a police interrogator is interviewing Rosanna Arquette's character. The interrogator is none other than Mark Comacho, one of the talented actors behind Jagged Alliance's vast array of characters, and one of the games' biggest fans. For the first Jagged Alliance, Mark lent his voice to create the roles of "It", "Lance" and "Boss". In Jagged Alliance 2, Mark brings to life "Shadow", "Igor", "Gasket" and "Jake". Click here for the interview. Friday, July 7, 2000A new Makeover to the siteHello everyone, as you can see we've changed a few things with the site... :-). Since we haven't been able to get the game onto your hard drives just yet, we thought that the least we could do would be to add some new content to the site. We started with a makeover of the existing content, and added a little, but we're not done yet. At the risk of giving too much away (we're usually pretty keen on surprises), we'll add new content regularly. We hope that you will enjoy the new site, as we have worked hard to put it together. There is still no news on a release date or a publisher, but you can be sure that as soon as we know more information, we will post that info here. Friday, June 9, 2000We welcome a new team member...Hello everyone, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Jeff, and I am the new webmaster at Sir-tech, so yes, the position has finally been filled. I have been very busy redesigning the Wizardry 8 website, and I am currently in the process of revamping this site and you can expect to see some exciting new changes here within the next week or so. If you have any questions, comments about this site, or suggestions on how to improve the site, I am here to listen to what you have to say, and welcome your input. Feel free to email me any of your concerns or comments about this website. Also, just to remind you, JA2: Unfinished Business is finished, we are waiting on details and trying to finalize a publisher. I know it is frustrating for all of you who are eagerly awaiting this title, but it is just as frustrating for us waiting for a publisher to get it out to all of you who are waiting! So, please be patient with us! 8~) Wednesday, April 5, 2000We're Still Here!We apologize for the delay in updating the site. We've been looking for a webmaster who is that perfect combination between game-guru, public relations person, graphic artist, and web developer and it hasn't been easy. While it shouldn't be much longer, let us try to bring you up to date on the status of the game: Jagged Alliance 2:Unfinished Business has "gone gold" in the sense that the beta test period is over. The game has turned out even better than we could have hoped for and we're very proud of it. Unfortunately, we're not in a position to tell you when it will appear in stores as the publishing details have not been finalized. We expect to be able to announce those details soon. We're as anxious as you are! Monday, December 20, 1999New Tactical LOS FeatureWe've now added a line of sight (LOS) indicator. This looks somewhat similar to our "best cover" indicator but will now show you areas where you can see. See the new screenshot we've added. Green areas mean the selected merc has clear LOS to that tile while yellow means there could be one enemy stance that cannot be seen. Orange means there are two enemy stances that couldn't be seen on that tile (or only one that could be seen) and red means no line of sight at all. This tool, combined with the best cover indicator should truly enhance your tactical decisions. Wednesday, December 15, 1999Sniper Rifle EnhancementMany of you complained that the sniper rifles weren't useful enough in Jagged Alliance 2. The AP cost was quite high and they didn't do that much additional damage as compared to assault rifles which had MUCH lower AP cost. So the end result is that we have tweaked the sniper rifle to be more realistic and more balanced. Specifically, we've:
Friday, December 10, 1999Tactical EnhancementWe have made modifications to the penalties for gun condition. In Jagged Alliance 2, if a character's marksmanship skill was greater than the status of their gun, then their base chance-to-hit was reduced by half of the difference between the two values. Dave didn't think a merc with high marksmanship should be penalized for having a higher rating then a gun in near perfect condition, so now (in Unfinished Business), if the gun's condition is higher than 85%, there will be no penalty when firing. For example: Say Lynx, with a marksmanship of 99, is shooting a gun that is in 89% condition: the old calculation would give Lynx a 5% penalty to hit, but in the new system he would not have any penalty for shooting. Monday, November 15, 1999I.M.P. ChangeThe word has just come down from the folks at I.M.P. They wanted to make their site a little more efficient. They finally realized that most mercs just don't have time to play "20 questions". Oh well, more work, but at least it's worth it. Wednesday, November 10, 1999New FeatureDave, with the help of Chris (who's working on Jagged Alliance 3), has added a new feature that was planned for Jagged Alliance 2 but never made it in - a "best cover" indicator. Because of the isometric playing angle, players can sometimes misinterpret which spot offers the best protection. This feature will help eliminate some unfortunate fatalities. Of course, this feature works with known enemies only and is purely optional (JA purists may prefer not to use it). Monday, November 1, 1999Game UpdateAt this point in time, the preliminary design, coding and level (map) work is done and the first third of the game is now playable. While we don't really have the time to sit back and enjoy it yet (because there's still a lot of work to do), we manage to squeeze in a bit of time here and there. Play-balance testing - you can't start too early and you never have enough of it. |
